An Enhancement of Compositional Stability of Phase Change Materials by Lamination with Aluminum Sheet

The wax leakage from shape-stabilized phase change materials (SSPCMs) is a limitation because it reduces their functionality. In this work, an enhancement of the compositional stability SSPCMs formed by high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and paraffin blends through lamination aluminum (Al) foil was studied. materials’ thermal conductivity enhanced adding expanded graphite (EG). simplest method reducing leakage, but suffers poor adhesion between polymer-based protecting layers. improved Al achieved 2 wt.% maleated (PE) acting as promoter into or plasma treatment both surfaces. Microscopic, spectroscopic, optical techniques were used to analyze surface properties SSPCMs. peel resistance after modification PE increased 2.2 N/m 7.2 55.1 N/m, respectively. treated modified suppressed significantly. plasma-treated PE-modified showed 0.5 0.2 wt.%, respectively, three days test.
